Find exactly the cards you need with powerful, customizable search filters. Search lets you combine multiple criteria to pinpoint specific cards across your collection, individual decks, or the entire Magic: The Gathering database.

Instead of scrolling through hundreds of cards, Search lets you:

  • Find specific cards instantly - Combine multiple filters to narrow results
  • Discover new cards - Search the entire Magic database for cards you don't own yet
  • Build better decks - Find cards in your collection that fit specific criteria
  • Complete sets - Identify missing cards from specific expansions
  • Budget deck building - Filter by price to find affordable options

Getting Started

  1. Tap the magnifying glass icon in the navigation bar
  2. The Search screen opens with all filters collapsed
  3. Tap any filter category to expand it and configure it
  4. Once you have applied the filters you want, tap the Search button to view the results

Tip

A helpful explanation dialog appears the first time you use Search. You can dismiss it and it won't show again.

Search Scope

Choose where to search:

All Cards (Default)

Search the entire Magic: The Gathering database - every English card ever printed.

Best for: - Discovering new cards for deck ideas - Finding cards you don't own yet - Exploring specific mechanics or themes - Learning about cards from sets you're not familiar with

My Collection

Search only cards you own in your collection.

Options: - Entire Collection - Search all cards you own - Specific Location - Filter to a particular storage location (binder, box, etc.)

Best for: - Finding cards you own for deck building - Checking if you have specific cards before buying - Organizing cards by criteria - Identifying trade fodder

Specific Deck

Search within a particular deck you've built.

Best for: - Reviewing deck composition - Finding specific cards in large decks (like Commander) - Checking if you included certain effects - Analyzing deck strategy

Available Filters

Card Name

Type any part of a card name to find matches.

Features: - Type-ahead suggestions - Matching cards appear as you type - Partial names work - "Light" finds "Lightning Bolt" - Tap suggestions - Select from the dropdown to auto-fill

Example: - Type "Jace" to find all Jace planeswalkers - Type "Bolt" to find Lightning Bolt, Firebolt, etc.

Colors

Filter cards by color identity with flexible matching modes.

Color Selection: - Tap color symbols to select: White, Blue, Black, Red, Green - Select multiple colors for multicolor searches - Colorless option available

Matching Modes:

Includes (Default) - Cards that contain at least the selected colors - May include additional colors - Example: Select Blue + Red → finds Izzet cards, mono-blue, mono-red, and more

Exactly - Cards with exactly these colors, no more, no less - Example: Select Blue + Red → finds only Izzet (UR) cards

At Most - Cards with some or all of these colors, but no others - Example: Select Blue + Red → finds mono-blue, mono-red, and Izzet, but not Jeskai (WUR)

Mana Cost (CMC)

Filter by converted mana cost with multiple conditions.

Operators: - < - Less than - = - Exactly equal to - > - Greater than

Multiple Conditions: - Add multiple CMC conditions with + button - Combine with AND or OR logic - Remove conditions with − button

Examples: - CMC = 2 → All 2-drops - CMC < 3 → 0, 1, and 2 mana cards - CMC = 3 OR CMC = 5 → Cards costing exactly 3 or 5 - CMC >= 2 AND CMC <= 4 → Cards costing 2, 3, or 4

Best for: - Building mana curves - Finding budget-friendly low-CMC cards - Identifying high-impact expensive spells

Card Text (Oracle Text)

Search for specific words or phrases in card text.

Features: - Add multiple text phrases with + button - Combine with AND or OR logic - Case-insensitive matching

Examples: - "draw a card" → Cards with card draw - "flying" AND "first strike" → Cards with both abilities - "destroy target creature" OR "exile target creature" → Removal spells - "whenever" AND "enters the battlefield" → ETB triggers

Best for: - Finding specific mechanics - Discovering synergies - Searching for triggered abilities - Identifying removal or protection

Type Line

Filter by card types, subtypes, or supertypes.

Features: - Add multiple type searches with + button - Combine with AND or OR logic - Matches partial type lines

Examples: - "Creature" → All creatures - "Legendary Creature" → Legendary creatures only - "Human Wizard" → Human Wizard creatures - "Artifact" OR "Enchantment" → Artifacts or enchantments - "Instant" AND "Arcane" → Arcane instants

Best for: - Tribal deck building - Finding legendary creatures for Commander - Filtering by card type - Discovering specific subtypes

Power / Toughness

Filter creatures by power and toughness values.

Operators: - < - Less than - = - Exactly equal to - > - Greater than

Features: - Add multiple conditions for each with + button - Combine with AND or OR logic - Include * (star) checkbox for variable P/T (e.g., Tarmogoyf)

Examples: - Power = 1, Toughness = 1 → All 1/1 creatures - Power >= 5 → Large creatures - Power = 2 AND Toughness >= 4 → Efficient blockers - Toughness > Power → Defensive creatures

Best for: - Finding aggressive creatures - Identifying efficient blockers - Building tribal decks with specific stats - Discovering creatures that survive specific removal

Keywords

Search for cards with specific keyword abilities.

Features: - Add multiple keywords with + button - Combine with AND or OR logic - Type any keyword ability

Common Keywords: - Flying, First Strike, Double Strike, Deathtouch - Vigilance, Trample, Haste, Lifelink - Hexproof, Indestructible, Menace - Flash, Flashback, Cycling, Kicker

Examples: - "Flying" → All creatures with flying - "Flying" AND "Vigilance" → Creatures with both - "Flashback" OR "Aftermath" → Cards with graveyard recursion - "Hexproof" OR "Shroud" → Protected creatures

Best for: - Finding evasive creatures - Building around specific mechanics - Discovering synergies - Identifying protection abilities

Set

Filter cards by expansion or set.

Features: - Type-ahead suggestions for set names - Add multiple sets with + button - Shows set code and full name

Examples: - "Dominaria United" → Cards from DMU - "Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty" + "Phyrexia: All Will Be One" → Cards from both sets

Best for: - Completing set collections - Finding cards from favorite sets - Building themed decks - Identifying reprints

Price (USD)

Filter cards by market value from Scryfall pricing.

Operators: - < - Less than - <= - Less than or equal to - = - Exactly equal to - >= - Greater than or equal to - > - Greater than

Features: - Add multiple price conditions with + button - Combine with AND or OR logic

Examples: - Price >= 10 → Cards worth $10 or more - Price <= 2 → Budget-friendly cards - Price >= 1 AND Price <= 5 → Mid-range value cards - Price >= 50 OR Price <= 0.25 → High-value or bulk cards

Best for: - Budget deck building - Identifying valuable cards in your collection - Finding affordable alternatives - Tracking collection value

Search Results

Viewing Results

Results appear as you apply filters: - Card count shown at top - Grid view with card images - Tap any card to view details

Taking Action

From search results, you can: - View card details - Full card information and pricing - Add to collection - Add cards you don't own yet - Add to deck - Include cards in your deck lists - Check ownership - See if you own the card and where it's located

Tips for Effective Searching

Start Broad, Then Narrow

  1. Begin with one or two filters
  2. Review results
  3. Add more filters to refine
  4. Remove filters if results are too narrow

Use OR Logic for Discovery

  • Combine similar effects with OR to find alternatives
  • Example: "Destroy" OR "Exile" OR "Sacrifice" for removal

Use AND Logic for Precision

  • Stack requirements to find exact matches
  • Example: "Creature" AND "Flying" AND CMC = 2

Save Common Searches

  • Take note of filter combinations you use often
  • Quickly recreate searches for deck building sessions

Experiment with Matching Modes

  • Try different color matching modes to discover cards
  • "Includes" casts a wider net than "Exactly"
